NYC Media

NYC Media students plant the flag at the 9/11 Museum in Lower Manhattan on the first day of the 2020 trip.

Born in Chicago, raised in Nebraska and a Buckeye since 1986 (more or less), New York holds as much fascination for me as my students. It is and always has been the Media Capital of the World. I finally took advantage of that — and the growing size and resources of The Department of Media, Journalism & Film — to create a NYC Media travel class for Winter Term 2014. With the 2020 course complete, I’m a seven-trip veteran. Exhilarating and exhausting, it never gets old.

During the 2020 trip, students connected with nearly four dozen media guests — 20 of them Miami grads — plus a couple dozen more Miamians at a mixer for alums in media. Hope you’ll take a minute to meet them yourself,  and learn about their great contributions to the conversation, on my 2020 NYC Media page.

2021 Update: Sadly, no NYC Media for 2021, since many newsrooms are operating with remote staff during the pandemic. Watch this page for information about NYC Media 2022, Jan. 3-21!
